Atomic Curriculum Analysis Tool (Atomic CAT)– User Guide

Atomic CAT is an AI-powered tool that analyzes Canvas courses to provide a high-level overview of the curriculum

Accessing Atomic CAT

1.Log into Canvas.

2.Navigate to your account or sub-account where Atomic CAT is installed.

3.Select the Atomic CAT link from the navigation bar.

 

Reviewing Existing Programs

Once inside Atomic CAT:

1.You’ll see a list of existing Programs (e.g., Nursing, Materials Science, Artificial Intelligence Engineering).

2.Each program displays how many courses are associated with it. (if you go to the 3 dot, manage programs, and click on the program)

3.Click a program name to view the topics covered by that program and how many resources are aligned to each topic.

Exploring Topics Within a Program

When you click into a specific Program (from the dropdown menu), you will see:

•A list of AI-generated Topics based on the content of the selected courses.

•For each topic, you can view:

Courses covering that topic

Resources that mention the topic

•A Coverage by Course bar chart that shows topic distribution

•A description generated by the AI

•A set of Related Topics automatically suggested

This allows you to evaluate how thoroughly a topic is addressed and identify any underrepresented areas.

 

Managing Programs

To create or modify programs:

1.Click the three-dot menu in the top right corner (of Atomic CAT homepage) and select Manage Programs.

2.This opens the Programs Management screen where you can:

Edit an existing program (✏️ icon): Add/remove courses or rename the program.

Delete a program (❌ icon).

Create a new program by clicking “New Program”.

When creating a new program:

•Enter a Program name.

•Select the relevant courses from the list.

•Click Save to generate a new analysis.

Searching for Programs

•From the main screen, you can use the Search Programs box to locate a specific program.

•The search functionality is powered by Atomic Search, ensuring fast and intelligent results.
