Overall Score Graph
The Overall Score graph provides a section-by-section breakdown of a student's performance on a selected attempt of an adaptive assessment. It offers a clear view of how the student performed across each section based on the grading configuration defined in the assessment setup.
Adaptive assessments are organized into sections, each of which may use a unique grade scale. The graph displays the overall grade and the score for each section separately, using the section's associated grading scale and the assessment level grading scale.
By default, the graph shows data from the most recent completed attempt. Instructors can also select a different attempt to view historical performance.
- Each section the student encountered during the selected attempt is shown as a separate section on the graph.
- Scores are displayed using the grade scale assigned to each section, which may include:
- Raw percentage or points
- Letter grades
- Descriptive levels (e.g., “Developing”, “Proficient”, “Exemplary”)
- Sections that were not encountered due to branching or skipped because they were optional are excluded from the graph.
Section Scores
Each section in the graph includes a “View Details” link, which opens a detailed report showing:
- All activities within the section
- The student’s responses, scores
- Additional context such as completion time and number of attempts per activity
Section Detail Report
The Section Detail Report provides an in-depth analysis of a student's performance within a specific section of an adaptive assessment. This report is designed to offer granular insights at both the activity and question levels, helping instructors and students understand performance patterns, time management, and mastery of key learning areas.
Section Overview
At the top of the report, the following summary information is presented:
- Overall Section Score - Displays the student’s total score for the section, including the raw points earned out of the total available points.
- Highest Performing Learning Areas - Highlights the learning areas where the student achieved the strongest performance within the section. Each learning area is accompanied by a delta icon showing score change since the previous attempt, indicating improvement or decline.
Activity Breakdown
Each activity within the section is presented in its own subsection of the report, including the following components:
- Activity Score - Includes the total points earned for the activity and the maximum possible score.
- Highest Performing Learning Areas - Within each activity, the student's top-performing learning areas are highlighted, along with delta indicators showing how performance has changed compared to the previous attempt.
- Performance by Question Graph - A circle graph displaying the number of correct, incorrect, and unanswered questions for that activity, offering a quick visual summary of question-level accuracy.
- Average Time Per Question - Shows the average time the student spent on each question in the activity, which can be useful in assessing pacing and engagement.
- Unanswered Questions - Lists the question numbers that were skipped or left unanswered, helping identify potential issues such as time constraints or confusion.
- Difficulty Performance Analysis - This section analyzes the student's performance by question difficulty, based on how questions were classified in the assessment:
-
- Difficulty Levels - Breaks down the number of questions seen at each difficulty level (e.g., Level 1, Level 2…Level 5).
- % Correct - For each difficulty level, the percentage of questions answered correctly is displayed, giving insight into how well the student handled varying levels of challenge.
Score Change Indicators
Where applicable, each learning area in the report is marked with a delta icon to indicate the direction of score change since the last attempt:
- ▲ Increased performance
- ▼ Decreased performance
- Nothing will display if there was no change or the student encountered a new learning area not seen in the prior attempt
These indicators help track student growth or regression across repeated assessments, making it easier to pinpoint areas of consistent struggle or improvement.
Highest and Lowest Performing Learning Areas
The Highest and Lowest Performing Learning Areas section provides a snapshot of a student's strongest and weakest sections within a single attempt of an adaptive assessment. This view helps students and instructors quickly identify key areas of mastery and areas that may require additional focus. More information on additional Learning Area Details can be found under the Learning Area Detail tab.
This section analyzes the percentage scores the student achieved in each section of the assessment attempt. Based on these scores:
- The Highest Performing Area is the section with the highest percentage scores.
- The Lowest Performing Area is the section with the lowest percentage scores.
Each section's performance is displayed as a percentage of total possible points for that section, taking into account the section’s individual grade scale if applicable.
- Only sections the student encountered during the attempt are included. If a section was skipped due to branching logic or marked optional and not completed, it is excluded.
- Ties are allowed if the student received the same percentage in multiple sections.
Progress Over Time
The Progress Over Time graph provides a visual representation of how a student's performance evolves across multiple attempts of an adaptive assessment. This visualization helps instructors and learners identify trends, improvement areas, and knowledge retention within specific sections of the assessment.
This graph leverages an assessment-level reporting group, which aggregates student scores per section across multiple submissions of the same adaptive assessment. Each data point on the graph represents a student's score for a particular section on a given attempt.
- Section-Based Tracking: Scores are tracked separately for each section, reflecting the modular structure of the adaptive assessment.
- Dynamic Branching Awareness: If a student does not encounter a section due to branching logic (e.g., not meeting the cut score), that section will not appear for that attempt.
- Support for Optional Sections: Optional sections are included if completed by the student, ensuring personalized learning paths are reflected.
- Multiple Grade Scales: The graph respects each section's individual grading scale, allowing for accurate comparison and reporting even when scales differ.
The graph displays:
- X-axis: Assessment attempts in chronological order.
- Y-axis: Section scores, either as raw points or normalized values depending on the grade scale defined for each section.
- Lines or data markers: Individual sections from the adaptive assessment.
Learning Area Details Tab
The Learning Area Detail tab of the report presents a comprehensive view of a student's performance across all learning areas assessed in the test. It breaks down results by section and provides detailed insights into subtopic-level strengths and weaknesses, helping instructors and students target areas for review or reinforcement.
For each section included in the assessment attempt, the following information is shown:
- Learning Areas - Each learning area the student encountered is listed, along with:
- A circle graph visualizing the percentage of questions answered correctly within that area.
- A delta indicator (if applicable) showing the change in performance compared to the previous attempt:
- +% Indicates an increase in correctness
- -% Indicates a decrease
- 0% Indicates no change or first-time appearance
- Subtopics - Under each learning area, associated subtopics are listed to provide a finer-grained view of content coverage. This helps identify which parts of a learning area may be contributing to a strong or weak overall performance.
- Combined View - If a learning area spans multiple sections, the circle graph and delta reflect the combined performance across all appearances in the assessment.
