Atomic Assessments Glossary of Terms

Term	Definition
Action	In Learnosity: a category of executable code units triggered by events within an Item (e.g., “play”, “record”, or “next Item”).
Activity	In Learnosity: a group of Items presented to the student as a single assessment. In Atomic Assessments: the grouping container of Items underlying an Assignment.
Activity Builder	The interface allowing authors to build an Activity using templates and configurations.
Activity ID	A unique identifier used in Learnosity to group user sessions and tie submissions for reporting purposes.
Activity Reference	A unique reference code assigned to each Activity created via Learnosity’s Author tools.
Assignment	In Atomic Assessments: the highest-level container instructors assign to students. It contains an Activity.
Auto-scored	Question types/features that are automatically graded by the system.
Author API	A Learnosity API for visual editing and content creation.
Authoring / Authoring Tools	Tools used to create Items, Questions, Features, Activities.
Canvas Rubric	Instructors can add a rubric from Canvas to grade an assignment.
Check Answer button	Allows students to check answers; disabled when 'Grade Server-Side' is selected.
Content Manager	The interface/tool for managing items, activities, uploads, etc.
Create Gradebook Entry	Assignment setting that creates a gradebook entry in the LMS.
Data Table	Table allowing variable substitution for parametrized questions.
Duplicate Assignment	Ability to duplicate an assignment/activity without affecting the original.
Embedded Assignment	Embedding the assignment into a Canvas page.
Feature	Interactive component (calculator, ruler, etc.) that enhances a question.
Grade Server-Side	Setting that moves score validation to the server.
Graphing Question Type	Question types allowing graphing, plotting, or drawing.
Highest / Latest / Average Score	Score to keep when multiple attempts are allowed.
Item	Container holding Questions and/or Features.
Item Bank	Repository of Items for reuse and management.
Item Pool	Subset of items that can be randomly selected.
Item Score Report	Report showing student scores on each item.
Item Statistics	Descriptive statistics for each item.
Item Types	Supported question types in the system.
Manual Grading	Questions that require instructor review.
Multiple Attempts	Number of tries allowed for students.
NGN Question Types	Next Generation NCLEX-style question formats.
Override Settings	Assignment settings for specific students.
Page / Section Breaks	Divide items/questions into pages or sections.
Proctoring	Tools/integrations for secure assessments.
Publish / Unpublish	Making an assignment available or unavailable.
Question	A task students complete that must be added to an Item.
Question Editor	Interface for defining question content and scoring.
Question Feature	Small tools/features added within a question.
Question Scores Report	Report showing student performance per question.
Randomize / Shuffle Items	Randomizes order of items for each student.
Rating Question Type	Survey/rating scale question type.
Reports / Analytics	Tools to analyze performance and outcomes.
Review State	State where students/instructors review responses.
Score to Keep	Choice of Highest, Latest, or Average score.
Security / Integrity	Assessment integrity tools.
Simple Feature	Streamlined version of a Feature.
Start Screen	Assignment begins only after clicking 'Start'.
Student Attempt	Record of a student's submission.
Student Outcomes Report	Performance report by tagged outcomes.
Tag / Tagging	Metadata applied to items / questions.
Template	Pre-defined activity format.
Time Limit	Number of minutes allowed for an assignment.
Timer Mode	Whether timer pauses or runs continuously.
Variables	Used in parametrized questions.
Weighted Scoring	Different items/questions count differently.
Workflow	Author → Assign → Deliver → Grade → Report.
Written / Recorded Response	Essay, audio, or video response types.
