The Question Scores report in AA provides detailed insight into how students performed on individual questions within an assignment. This view is helpful for instructors looking to analyze performance by item, time spent, and scoring trends
Key Components of the Report
1. Student
The Student column lists the names of students who have accessed or submitted the assessment. Each name is clickable, leading to a more detailed view of the student’s attempt(s) in SpeedGrader.
2. Time Spent
This column shows the total time each student spent on the assessment during their latest attempt. Hovering over the info icon next to “1m” gives you more context about how time is calculated.
3. Score
Displays the student’s overall percentage score for the attempt. If a dash appears (–), it means the attempt has not been submitted or scored.
4. Item Tabs (Item 1, Item 2, etc.)
Each Item column corresponds to a question on the assessment. The score in each cell represents the number of points the student earned for that specific question.
•Green check (✔️) = Correct
•Red X (❌) = Incorrect or no points earned
You can hover over each item’s title (e.g., Item 1 - /5) to see the maximum possible points and a description of the question.
5. Sections Dropdown
The Sections dropdown lets you filter the results by course section. By default, this is set to All sections, but you can narrow the view to a specific section of your course.
6. Refresh Button
The Refresh (⟳) icon reloads the data to ensure you are viewing the most up-to-date information, especially useful if students are actively taking or submitting the assessment.
7. Download Button
The Download (⬇) button exports the report as a CSV file, which can be opened in Excel or other spreadsheet programs for further analysis.
8. Sliders Button
The Sliders icon opens a menu with display options, such as:
•Show all attempts – Displays multiple attempts per student.
•Show time spent – Toggles the visibility of the “Time Spent” column.
Rubrics Section
Below the score table, you’ll find an option to add a rubric to the assignment. This section allows you to:
•Create custom criteria and ratings for performance.
•Set point values per criterion.
•Link rubrics to Outcomes for Learning Mastery tracking.
•Enable or disable options such as:
•Free-form comments
•Point removal from rubric
•Assignment grading integration
•Hiding rubric totals from students
⚠️ Important Note: Applying a rubric to an Atomic Assessment does not affect scoring on live student submissions. Rubrics are only used when manually regrading submissions via SpeedGrader. They serve as a guideline for instructors but are not calculated automatically by the system for initial scoring.
The Question Scores report is a powerful tool for quickly identifying which questions were most challenging, how students performed individually and as a group, and how much time was spent on the assessment. Pairing this report with the rubrics feature provides even deeper insight into student performance and instructional effectiveness.
