Learning Outcomes Report

This report is a premium feature, to configure this report for your account please file a ticket.

The Learning Outcomes report is a student facing outcome report that uses tags to show information on students performance on course outcomes. This report will generate at the top of the Review screen after the student has submitted the assignment and it will display to teachers at the top of the students attempt in the SpeedGrader.

Figure 1: Example of drill-down view of a Level 1 tag

The report shows drill-down view of the user's performance with a configured set of Level 1 and Level 2 tags. As an example, the given tag hierarchy defines Level 1 as Subject tags (eg. Math, English) each comprising a set of Level 2 Topic Areas (Arithmetic, Algebra, Geometry).

For the latest attempt, the report shows the percentage of correct, incorrect and unattempted items within each Subject that the session covered. Drilling down on a Level 1 shows the percentage of correct, incorrect and unattempted items in each Level 2 of that Subject.

The report dynamically determines which items were shown during the attempt and calculates the percentage score for each tag as a proportion of all items in the session bearing that tag. For example, if the session included 8 items tagged Math, and the user had 6 correct, the report calculates a score of 75% for that tag.

How to set up the assignment

Once this report has been configured for you account, you will see a new assignment setting under the Feedback Timing section: Show learning outcomes report - requires "Level 1" tags to be set on items

  1. Create some Level 1 and Level 2 tags in a course and assign them to items in an assignment.  Every item must have a Level 1 tag for the report to generate. Level 2 tags are optional, but adding them will enable drill-down behavior.
  2. Enable Show learning outcomes report - requires "Level 1" tags to be set on items in the assignment settings.
  3. Enable Allow Student Review in the assignment settings
Please note: Making changes to the tags will take some time for the tags to update and become available in the report. If it's not working, try back in 10 minutes.
