How to Copy Atomic Polls 1.3 from One Canvas Course to Another

This guide will walk you through the steps to copy Atomic Polls 1.3 from one course to another in Canvas. By following these steps, you can ensure that your poll content is accurately transferred between courses.

Step 1: Copy the Content Using Your LMS Course Copy Tool

A. Go to your LMS (e.g., Canvas) and use the Course Copy feature to copy the course that contains the polls to your new course.

B. .Make sure to include:

Pages where polls are embedded.

Modules where polls are included as module items.

Note: Only content copied through the LMS will carry over to the new course. Atomic Polls needs to be launched in the new course for access permissions to be set.

Step 2: Launch Atomic Polls in the New Course

1.In the new course, launch Atomic Polls at least once.

•This step is necessary to ensure that Atomic Polls recognizes you as an authorized user in the new course.

Step 3: Select Polls to Copy from the Source Course

A. In the source course (the course you’re copying from), navigate to Atomic Polls in the course navigation menu.

•If you’re working directly from an embedded poll in a page, you can access Content Manager from that poll.

2.Choose the polls you want to copy.

Step 4: Push Polls to the New Course

A .Once you’ve selected the polls to copy, click the Push Polls button.

B .A search field will appear. Enter the name of the new course you’re pushing the polls to and select it from the search results.

C .Click Next.

Step 5: Confirm Poll Options

A. Decide if you want to update existing poll questions and settings in the new course:

Update existing poll questions: Select this option if you’d like to overwrite existing poll questions.

Update existing settings: Select this option if you’d like to overwrite any existing settings.

B .If neither option is selected, only new polls that didn’t already exist in the new course will be pushed over.

Step 6: Complete the Push

A. Click Push to start the transfer.

B. You should see a status message, such as “Pushing 1 poll to 1 course,” in the upper right corner of your screen.

C. Once the transfer is complete, you’ll see a confirmation message, “Push completed.”

Note: If any issues arise or you don’t see the expected polls in the new course, double-check that Atomic Polls was launched in the new course before pushing content. This is a crucial step to ensure permissions are correctly set up.

Additional Tips

Check Permissions: If your new course doesn’t seem to have access to the polls, launching Atomic Polls in the course again can often resolve the issue.

Updating Poll Content: Keep in mind that pushing updates to existing questions or settings will overwrite them in the new course if you select these options.

This process should enable you to quickly copy and manage polls across courses, making Atomic Polls easier to deploy for different sections or term updates.
