The outcome reports show student performance based on preconfigured outcomes using item tag hierarchies.
The Learning Outcome reports show students' performance in key topics and subtopics based on course tags. Two versions of these reports are available.
Student facing outcomes
This report can be displayed to the student in the student review screen for each attempt. When viewing an attempt, teachers can access the same report by clicking on a student's name in the assessment Summary report.
This report provides a detailed view of students' performance using Level 1 and Level 2 course tags. It displays the percentage of correct, incorrect, and unattempted items within each tag and dynamically calculates the percentage score for each tag based on all items in the attempt.
Level tags establish a hierarchical structure that can be customized to fit your needs. Every question must have at least one Level 1 tag for generating reports. Questions can include multiple Level 2 tags for added granularity. The screenshot above illustrates this with a Level 1 tag ("Expressions and Equations") and multiple Level 2 tags ("CCSS.MATH... standards") applied throughout the assessment. Here's a breakdown:
- Level 1 tags represent broad outcome categories (e.g., English, Math).
- Level 2 tags denote specific subtopics within those categories (e.g., Grammar, Spelling, Expressions & Equations).
Assessment Outcomes
This report provides visibility into Level 1 outcomes at an assessment level. This report includes an averages row to the top to see course averages for each outcome. The number of occurrences will show how many questions of each outcome were shown to the student. Hovering over a score bar will display additional information about a single student's performance. You can download a CSV of the report results.
How to set up the assignment
Once this report has been set up for your account, you will notice a new assessment setting in the Feedback Timing section of the assessment settings. To view the learning outcomes report, "Level 1" tags need to be assigned to the questions in your assessment.
- You can create tags for your outcomes by going to the Content Manager, clicking on the Tags tab, and creating Level 1 and Level 2 tags in a course.
- Then, assign them to the questions in an assignment. Each question in the assessment must have at least a Level 1 tag added to it. Level 2 tags are optional, but adding them along with the Level 1 tags will allow drill-down behavior.
- Make sure to enable "Allow Student Review" in the assessment settings
Please note: Changing the tags will take some time to update and become available in the report. If it's not working, try back in 10 minutes.
Atomic Jolt Report Configuration
A two-level tag hierarchy is needed to create the reports. You can either use your existing tag types to create the hierarchy or build the hierarchy as you go along and assign your tags to the Level 1 and Level 2 course tag types. We will configure the report using the Level 1 and Level 2 course tag types by default. If you want to customize your hierarchy, please submit a support ticket with your request.
- Login to the authoring site for the customer
- Go to Tags > Tag Hierarchy
- Create and name a new hierarchy and add the Level 1 and 2 tag types. If the customer provided you with a list of tag types, then select those tag types instead.
- Login to the Atomic Jolt Admin Panel and navigate to the customer application instance settings. Add the following two references to the application instance configuration list:
"last_score_hierarchy_reference": "lastscoresreport",
"outcomes_tag_hierarchy_reference": "lastscoresreport",
Ensure that the name you enter in the reference matches precisely what you specified in the Learnosity Author site.
