Learning Outcomes reports

Our outcome reports show student performance based on preconfigured outcomes using item tag hierarchies. We have two versions of this report: the Learning Outcomes and Outcomes Report.

This report is a premium feature. To configure this report for your account, please file a ticket.

The Learning Outcomes report is a student—and instructor-facing report showing students' performance in key topics and subtopics. It is displayed to the student in the student review screen for their attempt. Teachers can access the same report when viewing an attempt by clicking on a student's name in the Summary Report.

The report shows a drill-down view of a student's performance using a set of Level 1 and Level 2 tags. These tags can be defined any way you want. For example, the hierarchy defined in the image above shows the Level 1 tag as using topic area tag definition (Expressions & Equations), comprising a set of standards covered by the Level 2 Standards (e.g., CCSS.MATH.CONTENT..). However, this is just one example, and as long as your hierarchy contains two levels of data this report will generate.

The report will display the percentage of correct, incorrect, and unattempted items within each Level 1 tag the session covered. Drilling down on a Level 1 shows the percentage of correct, incorrect, and unattempted items in each Level 2 Subject.

The report dynamically determines which items were shown during the attempt. It calculates the percentage score for each tag as a proportion of all items in the session bearing that tag. For example, if the session included eight items tagged Math, and the user had 6 correct, the report calculates a score of 75% for that tag.

How to set up the assignment

Once this report has been configured for your account, you will see a new assignment setting under the Feedback Timing section:

 Show learning outcomes report - requires "Level 1" tags to be set on items

  1. Create some Level 1 and Level 2 tags in a course and assign them to the items in an assignment.  Every item must have a Level 1 tag for the report to generate. Level 2 tags are optional, but adding them will enable drill-down behavior.
  2. Enable Show learning outcomes report - requires "Level 1" tags to be set on items in the assignment settings.
  3. Enable Allow Student Review in the assignment settings

Please note: Making changes to the tags will take some time for the tags to update and become available in the report. If it's not working, try back in 10 minutes.

The Outcomes report provides visibility into the tagged outcomes at a class level. This report adds an averages row to the top so you can see course averages for each outcome (section, category, and topic). Hovering over a score bar will display additional information about a single student’s performance. You can download a CSV of the report results.

Configuration

1) A tag hierarchy needs to exist in the Learnosity Authoring site to base the reports on.

  • Login to the authoring site for the customer
  • Go to Tags > Tag Hierarchy
  •  Configuration for Learning Outcomes
    • Create a hierarchy with all three Level tags
  • Configure for Outcomes/Last Score
    • Create a new hierarchy with the desired Level tag you want to display

2) The reports needs to be enabled on your application instance by an Atomic Jolt support specialist.

Note: The values you enter in the Atomic Jold Admin Panel need to match what you specified in the Learnosity Author site.

"last_score_hierarchy_reference": "level3",

"outcomes_tag_hierarchy_reference": "learningoutcomes",

3) Create or find an assignment tagged with the level tags. The Learning Outcomes Report has to have all items in the assignment be configured with Level 1 tags to generate properly.
