How can I view and respond to an Atomic Discussion?

Review how to view and respond to an Atomic Discussion as a student, including editing, deleting, and reporting comments.

Students can view and respond to a discussion by navigating to the page where the discussion has been inserted. Responses will be organized based on the time on which the reply was submitted. The time will be shown next to the name of the user who responded.

Editing a comment

Edit a comment by clicking on the three dot menu in the upper right corner of your response. Save your edit by clicking Post.

Once a comment has been edited the Teacher will be able to View the Edit History for a comment. Comments that have been edited will show an -Edited flag next to the comment timestamp.

Deleting a comment

Delete a comment by clicking on the three dot menu in the upper right corner of your response. A pop up will appear asking to confirm comment deletion. A deleted comment will show [Deleted Comment] in place of the comment.

Reporting a comment

Students can report inappropriate comments by clicking on the Report button underneath a comment. Reporting a comment will notify the teacher in the Canvas inbox to address.

Teachers will have the ability to mark a reported comment as “Mark as not profane” or to hide the comment. If a comment is hidden the comment will show [Comment has been removed due to a breach of code of conduct.] in the discussion. 

Comments can automatically be flagged as inappropriate based on the profanity dictionary set in the Comments Box course settings.
